Robin Robinett leads This Kids Classic to win the Amateur 2-Year-Old Geldings world championship.

This Kids Classic wins his first world championship title in Amateur 2-Year-Old Geldings.

Although This Kids Classic had never shown before, owner Robin Robinett of Brazil, Indiana, led the 2009 sorrel overo confidently into the pen—and walked out the class winner. The Paint Horse Journal caught up with Robin and “Larry Smith” after their big win.

Q: Congratulations! How did you feel going into the class today?

Robin: Sorry, I’m a little emotional! I was pretty confident, but this is the first time that horse has ever been shown and the first time I have ever shown him, so you never know what you’re going to get when you go in there. But he was very good, very quiet.

Q: What do you call your gelding?

Robin: We’ve been calling him Larry Smith. He came from Jason Smith, and my husband’s name is Larry, so they call him Larry Smith or LS.

Q: Is he a recent purchase for you?

Robin: Yes, we bought him about a month-and-a-half ago.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Larry Smith?

Robin: He is just so quiet and calm. I think anybody could go out there and show him because he just loves to show.

Q: What would you say is his strongest attribute?

Robin: He is just a real balanced 2–year–old gelding, and of course he looks like a Paint. He is very balanced, in the halter conformation.

Q: Who is your trainer?

Robin: Jason Smith of Whitesboro, Texas.

Q: What are your future plans for him?

Robin: He is for sale, but until then we will just continue showing him and having fun with him.
